Kitsunedo Duel
Kitsunedo Duel is a modified ruleset designed for two players.
Each player has two Spirit Lords, one of which is in the active position, and the other in the reserve position. At certain points, players can choose to swap which of their Spirit Lords is in the active position. The game ends once one player has killed both of the other player’s Spirit Lords.

Setup
Pick/Ban drafting phase
Spirit Lords are drafted in this order:
-
Player 2 bans one Spirit Lord
-
Player 1 bans one Spirit Lord
-
Player 1 picks their first Spirit Lord
-
Player 2 picks their first Spirit Lord
-
Player 2 picks their second Spirit Lord
-
Player 1 picks their second Spirit Lord
Once both players have picked their Spirit Lords, Player 1 chooses the Spirit Lord they want to start in their active position, followed by Player 2. The active Spirit Lord is placed in front of the player, with the reserve Spirit Lord placed to the side.

Cards
After Spirit Lords have been chosen, Player 1 is dealt their lantern and one item card. Player 2 is dealt their lantern and two item cards.

Play
Gameplay progresses as normal with players taking turns to play item cards, claim lanterns, make attacks and use their Spirit Lord abilities. Players can only attack and target their opponent’s active Spirit Lord, and only active Spirit Lords’ abilities can be used, with the exception of Tailed Shisu’s Unfulfilled Grudge.

Death and Reviving
When a Spirit Lord is killed, their player immediately swaps their active and reserve Spirit Lords, moving the dead Spirit Lord to the reserve position.
If a player has a Spirit Lord who is dead, at the start of their turn, before they draw a card, they must flip a card from the top of the Item Deck onto the Discard Pile. If the item is a Sake, the dead Spirit Lord revives in the Diminished State and they add the Sake to their hand. The player may choose to swap the revived Spirit Lord into the active position before they start their turn.

Swapping Spirit Lords
A player may swap the Spirit Lords in their active and reserve positions when they:
-
win a challenge,
-
have a Spirit Lord lose a life, or
-
have a Spirit Lord revive.

Victory
The game ends when a player has killed both of their opponent’s Spirit Lords.

Clarifications
If a player’s active Spirit Lord is diminished and they lose a challenge and are attacked at the same time, the active Spirit Lord is killed and swapped into the reserve position, and the new active Spirit Lord takes the second instance of damage.
